Here’s a useful list of questions to kickstart your interview process. And at the end, I’ll explain why this is just the beginning. 😉
1️⃣ Experience & Responsibilities
✅ What were your responsibilities as an Account Manager? Did you work exclusively with Amazon, or do you have experience with other platforms? How were your tasks assigned and managed?
👉 This question provides a general understanding of the candidate’s role and scope of work.
✅ Which metrics and KPIs did you track? How did you use them for decision-making?
👉 This helps determine whether the candidate is data-driven and can identify and improve weak points in an account.
✅ How many products have you launched? How many were successful or unsuccessful? Can you describe your product research process? What key factors did you consider?
👉 A good candidate should be able to analyze the market, assess product viability, and understand the reasons behind success or failure.
2️⃣ Technical Skills
✅ Have you worked on SEO optimization? Can you provide an example of a successful listing optimization? What were the results?
👉 Even if the candidate delegates SEO tasks to freelancers, they should understand the basics and how to measure success.
3️⃣ Problem-Solving Skills
✅ Tell us about your experience handling Account Health issues or adapting to Amazon’s rule changes. How did you resolve violations?
👉 Amazon’s policies change frequently, and unexpected problems arise. The candidate should demonstrate problem-solving skills in crisis situations, from listing suspensions to correcting account errors.
4️⃣ Communication & Client Management
✅ Can you share an example of a difficult client situation you successfully handled? And one you couldn’t resolve?
👉 This helps evaluate the candidate’s ability to manage conflicts and maintain strong client relationships.
✅ Have you worked with suppliers? How did you manage communication? Can you provide an example of successfully negotiating a contract or resolving a supplier issue?
👉 This question helps assess negotiation and relationship management skills, which are crucial for working with suppliers and partners.
5️⃣ Personality Traits & Motivation
✅ How do you make decisions when facing uncertainty or limited information? Can you give an example?
👉 This question reveals how the candidate handles stress, adapts quickly, and takes initiative.
✅ What aspects of your job do you enjoy the most? What tasks do you dislike? How do you handle tasks that don’t interest you?
👉 This helps identify strengths and how the candidate approaches less enjoyable responsibilities.
✅ What motivates you at work? What factors could lead you to leave a position?
👉 Understanding motivation helps create a work environment that fosters long-term employee retention.
